Cost per month
Shelf price is misleading because litters last different amounts of time. We convert every product to price per pound, then to an estimated cost per month for a single cat using typical monthly usage by type: about 14 lb for clumping clay, 12 lb for natural litters, and 8 lb for crystal, which is replaced whole rather than scooped. These are honest averages, not exact figures. With more cats, multiply accordingly. Sort by the cost per month column to compare on the same basis.
Dust and odor ratings
Amazon does not publish structured dust or odor data, so we tag those ourselves. Dust (low, medium, high) and odor control (1 to 5) are drawn from manufacturer descriptions and published hands-on reviews, not from a lab test we ran. Treat them as a directional guide, not a guarantee, and read the product page before buying if a specific trait matters for your cat.
Robot-safe and health monitoring
We mark a litter robot-safe when it is standard-weight clumping clay, which is what most self-cleaning boxes such as the Litter-Robot need to sift correctly. Lightweight, non-clumping, and crystal litters are generally not recommended in those boxes. Always confirm against your box maker's manual. Health monitoring flags litters that change color with urine pH to hint at possible urinary issues; it is an early warning, not a diagnosis, and never replaces a vet.
Prices and data
Products are real items sold on Amazon in the US, each linked directly to its listing. Prices are checked manually and updated regularly; the current set was last updated on 2026-07-17.
